Carolina Pig Pucker barbecue sauce is a third generation family recipe that originated along the N.C./S.C. border, near the birth place of traditional pit-cooked whole hog barbecue.
It's a prize-winning, tangy Carolina barbecue sauce -- equal parts apple cider vinegar, tomatoes, and mustard, plus 7 spices -- served on pork, ribs, and chicken. The name originated in the 1970s in the Florida Keys when sauce bottler Dan "the Pig Man" Huntley worked aboard a shrimp boat and had to cook a dish each week from his home state. "I had never seen the sauce outside of the Carolinas and I started using it on our boat and the crew loved it.... And that's how I became known as Dan the Pig Man, which later gave rise to Carolina Pig Pucker BBQ Sauce."
